A Burnaby actor stars as a curious fiancé in a play appearing in this year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival (VFF) lineup.
Kwasi Thomas portrays Noah in The Guys I F*ucked, a production at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island that was penned by Cetenie Narusis and directed by Megan Phillips, who also takes on the role of the betrothed Christine.
Formerly from Montreal, Thomas said the show will be his fourth VFF outing.
He jumped at the chance to appear in The Guys I F*ucked after Phillips called him.
“I met her in the first weeks I arrived in Vancouver, and we’ve worked together ever since,” he told Freshet News. “I wanted to be in it because it’s very vulnerable and personable. I identify with the character.”
In the play, Noah suggests to his fiancée they see a couple’s counsellor before they tie the knot. His character does his best to remain judgment-free “as the woman I love is going down memory lane and Noah is trying his best to make sense of someone’s insanity.”
He added, “I think these days, the quickest thing is to question and hate someone with opposite views … but my character is more of an assumption of the audience’s response.”
Thomas, who plans to do stand-up comedy after the production run, said he looks forward to seeing fellow actors in the Fringe shows.
