Labour Day weekend is approaching, and rain is in the forecast for the holiday.
Despite the gloomy weather, the city has a full lineup of activities planned, from pride celebrations, to the Labour Day classic. Dress for the weather and take in the remaining days of summer in the city.
Due to the holiday, some city services and businesses will be closed or operating with limited hours.
Calgary Transit: Buses, CTrains and On Demand will operate on a Sunday level of service on Labour Day. Use Calgary Transit’s trip planner to see transit schedules. The Calgary Transit call centre will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, and the customer service centre will be closed.
The Blue Line will be closed between City Hall/Bow Valley College and Marlborough stations starting on Saturday, Sept. 5 until the very early hours of Tuesday, Sept. 8 for repair and maintenence projects. Shuttle bus routes will replace train service for affected routes.
On Sept. 6, there will be detours downtown due to the pride parade. Only the CTrain shuttle stops at City Hall will be impacted by these specific detours.

Additionally, Calgary Transit made fall service changes as of Aug. 31.
Calgary Public Library: Library locations in Calgary will be closed on Labour Day.
Landfills: All City of Calgary landfills will be open on Labour Day.
Parking: On-street parking in all ParkPlus zones will be free on Labour Day. The Calgary Parking contact centre and customer service centre will be closed on the holiday. Weekend rates apply at Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots.
Leisure centers: Southland Leisure Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labour Day. All other leisure centres will be closed for the holiday. Village Square Leisure Centre is closed as of Aug. 31 until late 2027 for upgrades and repairs.
Canada Post: There will be no collection or delivery of mail on Labour Day. Post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
Malls: CF Chinook Centre and CF Market Mall will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Labour Day. Sunridge Mall will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Southcentre Mall will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and The Core will be open 12 to 5 p.m.
Attractions: Telus Spark Science Centre will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Calgary Zoo/Wilder Institute will be open with regular hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Heritage Park Historical Village will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pride festival and parade
Calgary Pride has several events planned over the weekend, including Pride on the Island, Sept 5 at Prince’s Island Park featuring Trixie Mattel. The 18+ party runs from 5 to 11 p.m., and will feature a lineup of DJs, drag performers and entertainers. Pride on the Island continues on Sept. 6 with an all-ages event, running from 12 to 8 p.m. with free entry.
The pride parade is planned for Sunday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m., with the route to go along 9th Avenue S.W., starting at 5th Street S.W. and ending at 4th Street S.E. in East Village. Join community groups, artists, organizations and allies in a procession through the city advocating for visibility, safety and equity.

Fiesta Filipino
Fiesta Filipino takes place in Eau Claire Park, from Sept. 4 to 7 and is free to attend. Enjoy performances by more than 300 local artists, food vendors offering authentic Filipino cuisine, cultural demonstrations, games, prizes and more. The festival runs from 3 to 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
Halloweekends at Calaway Park
Halloweekends return to Calaway Park on Sept. 5, inviting visitors to dress up and stroll the park. There will be costume contests, prizes and activities for the whole family, in addition to regular attractions. Halloweekends runs on weekends and holiday Mondays at Calaway Park until Oct. 12.
Labour Day Classic
Enojy the yearly Labour Day Classic CFL game between rivals Edmonton Elks and Calgary Stampeders. In addition to regular football festivities, spectators will also be treated with a low-altitude flyover by CF-18 Hornet fighter jets, a salute to the Canadian Armed Forces in pre-game ceremonies and live music performed by local artists. The game takes place on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.
East Village Public Art Experience
Visit The Confluence on Sept. 5 for an immersive, guided art experience and a chance to contribute to public art at The Confluence’s free graffiti wall. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Night markets
Take in the remaining days of summer by visiting one of the city’s many night markets. On Sept. 4, visit the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association from 5 to 10 p.m., or10 Ave and 10 Street S.E. for the Inglewood Night Market from 5 to 11 p.m.
