One person was killed and several others seriously injured as a result of three significant road collisions over the course of Friday and early Saturday.
In Evanston, police reported the death of a motorcyclist involved in a collision at the intersection of Symons Valley Parkway and Evanston View N.W. around 4:20 p.m. Friday.
The rider, a 19-year-old man, was going eastbound on Symons Valley Parkway when he “collided with a fixed object,” said Calgary police acting Staff Sgt. Brad Cage.
The Calgary Police Service collision reconstruction unit was continuing its work to determine the cause of the collision, Cage said, who added it wasn’t immediately known if speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
Later, northbound Deerfoot Trail was shut for a time early Saturday morning after a semi-truck rolled over at 17th Avenue S.E.
A passenger vehicle also rolled when it reached the initial crash scene and its three occupants were ejected, Cage said.
They did not receive serious injuries, he added, and were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Meanwhile on Friday morning, a senior citizen was taken to a hospital after being struck by a Calgary Transit bus she had just exited.
An 80-year-old woman fell as she was leaving the bus through a rear door at Centre Street and Beddington Boulevard N.W. around 9:40 a.m., police said.
The pedestrian received serious, life-altering injuries as the bus started to pull away and came into contact with her.
Speed and impairment are not considered factors in the crash, and the driver remained at the scene, police added in a news release.
