TORONTO — Derrick Etienne Jr. scored the tying goal in second-half stoppage time and Josh Sargent recorded his first career hat trick as Toronto FC rallied for a 4-4 draw against the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
Toronto (5-7-11) allowed the first goal to Maren Haile-Selassie in the 13th minute and came back to earn at least a draw for the eighth time this season. The Fire (11-6-5) played to a draw for the third straight match.
Sargent scored his first goal on a strike from the center of the box in the 27th minute. Eleven minutes later, Sargent sent a shot past Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady for a 2-1 lead. The Fire’s Walker Zimmerman answered with a goal the 49th, but Sargent broke the 2-all tie in the 54th for Toronto’s first hat trick since Federico Bernardeschi did so against Montreal on May 18, 2024.
But a pair of defensive breakdowns led to the Fire reclaiming the lead.
Haile-Selassie scored his second goal of the match in the 58th minute shortly after Toronto keeper Luka Gavran made an initial save from distance but was caught out of position on the second chance.
Robert Lewandowski, who played his first professional match on Canadian soil, made it 4-3 Fire in the 63rd.
