REGINA — Separated by two points in the West Division standings, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders meet in a critical showdown at Mosaic Stadium on OK Tire Labour Day Weekend.

Winnipeg knocked off the league-leading Montreal Alouettes in Week 13.

Saskatchewan got back in the win column with a victory over the Toronto Argonauts.

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

1. BRADY OLIVEIRA EYES 1,000

Running back Brady Oliveira is 44 yards shy of hitting 1,000 for the season. If he reaches the mark, it would be the fifth consecutive season he’s done so. To do it, he’ll have to find a way to solve a Riders’ run defence that has allowed 72.5 yards per game.

2. WHO HAS A MORE ACCURATE ARM?

Quarterback Zach Collaros completed 81.3 per cent of his passes in the win over Montreal, setting up an intriguing matchup against another pivot known for his accuracy, Trevor Harris. If Collaros can outshine his fellow veteran, it gives the Bombers the upper hand.

3. WELL TESTED

Winnipeg is fresh off a game in which they shut down an elite offence, and look to carry that momentum into Sunday night. From defensive lineman Willie Jefferson making his presence known at the line of scrimmage to defensive back Major Williams keeping tabs on the Riders’ top receivers, the defence can turn the game and take the home crowd out of it.

SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

1. STARTING ON TIME

Energy will be high inside Mosaic Stadium for an OK Tire Labour Day Weekend rivalry game, and Saskatchewan will try to use it to their advantage. After a pair of losses and a less-than-ideal first half against the Argos, a big stop or a major on the opening drive can set the tone.

2. KEESEAN JOHNSON EYES HIS OWN 1,000

Oliveira isn’t the only player chasing a milestone as receiver KeeSean Johnson sits 10 receiving yards from 1,000, a total he’s looking to surpass for the second straight year. For a receiving corps that’s dealt with injuries and remains without Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker, Johnson has been a consistent presence. Head coach Corey Mace will lean on him again versus a Bombers’ secondary that allows the fewest passing yards per game entering Week 14.

3. PREPARE FOR THE PASS GAME

It’s no secret Oliveira will get his share of the touches. However, the game could come down to the Riders’ ability to shut down the Bombers’ air attack. Over their past two contests, the secondary has surrendered an average of 388 passing yards, a total defensive back Nelson Lokombo and the rest of the unit should take personally.

NEED TO KNOW:

Saskatchewan has taken 16 of the past 20 editions of the Labour Day Classic, with Winnipeg’s most recent victory coming in 2022.

Winnipeg has played in the most games decided in the final three minutes (nine), with a 5-4 record.

Collaros is a career 14-7 against Saskatchewan. He is 7-2 in LDC matchups (3-0 with HAM, 1-0 with SSK and 3-1 with WPG).

Harris is a career 6-10 against Winnipeg. He is 2-3 in LDC matchups (1-1 with EDM, 0-1 with TOR and 1-1 with SSK).
