A 25-year-old Winnipeg man died in a crash on Highway 2 near Oak Bluff on Tuesday after RCMP say the SUV he was driving “suddenly veered” into oncoming traffic.
The collision happened just west of the intersection with Highway 3 in the rural municipality of Macdonald at 6 p.m., Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Friday.
Officers learned an SUV was headed east when it “suddenly veered” into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi-truck.
The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, was pronounced dead at the site, police say.
The two men in the semi-truck — the 32-year-old driver and his 28-year-old passenger — were treated for minor injuries nearby, RCMP said.
The crash led to part of Highway 2 being closed overnight. The investigation into the collision continues.
2 semi-trucks crash
A 43-year-old man was given a ticket for careless driving after an earlier crash just outside of Elie, which is west of Winnipeg, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The crash involved two semi-trucks in a westbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway, near Road 11 West, in the rural municipality of Cartier, RCMP said in the same news release Friday.
One semi-truck was parked on the shoulder when it was hit by another that was heading west, police said.
The parked semi-truck caught fire, and the other was heavily damaged in the crash.
The driver of the parked truck, a 56-year-old woman from La Broquerie, was not hurt, police said.
The other driver, a 43-year-old Winnipeg man, was treated for minor injuries. His passenger, a 27-year-old man from Winnipeg, was not hurt, the release said.
