A man in his 20s is in critical condition after an early morning shooting in downtown Winnipeg on Sunday, police say.
Officers responded to the area of Portage Avenue and Balmoral Street, near the University of Winnipeg, around 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson Claude Chancy said in an email to CBC News.
Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound when they got there.
The man was given emergency first aid and was taken to hospital in critical condition, Chancy said.

A stretch of sidewalk along Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg remained taped off after 11 a.m. on Sunday. Multiple officers were still at the scene and police vehicles were parked on the street.
No arrests have been made, police said.
