It was a disastrous year in Winnipeg and things only got worse this summer. Is it time for them to hit the rebuild button?

The Winnipeg Jets are less than two years removed from a President’s Trophy-winning season. The playoff curse commonly associated with that accolade is one thing, but what has happened in Winnipeg since then is a completely different kind of unfortunate. Between missing the playoffs and potentially losing a franchise icon, the Jets have lots of work ahead of them.
2025-26 Outcome
Regular Season Results: 35-35-12
A .500 record and 82 points doesn’t sound that terrible, but for a team that was atop the league standings just 17 months prior, it’s—as Joe would say—an unmitigated disaster. Since their relocation from Atlanta, the Jets have been a relatively consistent playoff team, making it as far as the Conference Final once and Semifinal twice. To have such a sudden and significant fall off, you can either chalk it up to a fluke, or it’s the sign of something deeper that the Jets need to have a concrete plan to fix.

Not a ton of change in Winnipeg. Jonathan Toews finally retired, and they lost Gustav Nyqvist, Jacob Bryson, and Eric Comrie to free agency. With mind to who they signed in their place, you can definitely suggest they improved. Stuart Skinner as a backup to Connor Hellebuyck made it feel like they were very well stocked in net. Mario Ferraro made their blue line significantly better, and Cole Koepke is a solid depth piece who you can plug-and-play anywhere in their bottom six. Of course, if Skinner indeed becomes their only hope in net, that changes everything.
