Key Takeaways

Charlotte was Canada’s top girl name in 2025, while Olivia remained No. 1 in the U.S.

Noah topped Canada’s list for boys, while Liam held the No. 1 spot in the U.S.

Many of the same baby names are popular in both countries, giving parents plenty of well-loved choices.

Olivia may have been the most popular baby name for girls in the U.S. for the seventh year in a row in 2025, but for our neighbors up north, the name isn’t quite as popular.

According to September 2026 data by the Government of Canada, Charlotte took the throne for the No. 1 baby name in that country for girls, while Olivia dropped to No. 2 after being at the top for nine years. Charlotte was the second most popular baby name for girls in the U.S. in 2025. For the fifth year in a row, Noah topped Canada’s top baby boy names, while that one was No. 2 in the U.S.

Those aren’t the only differences. Take a look at the top 10 boy and girl names in Canada last year, and how they compare with the U.S.

Top Boy Names in Canada in 2025

Data from the Social Security Administration (SSA) found the top baby boy name in the U.S. for the seventh year in a row in 2025 was Liam. That’s No. 3 in Canada.

While both lists have similarities, including Lucas sitting at No. 10 on each and most other names in the top 10, some are a bit lower on the list in the U.S.—Thomas (No. 34), Benjamin (No. 11), Jack (No. 15), and Leo (No. 19).

Top Girl Names in Canada in 2025

Most baby girl names in Canada’s top 10 also appear in our top 10, too, but Chloe was No. 23 in the U.S., Lily was No. 18, and Nora was No. 20. The latter, which means “honor,” appeared in Canada’s top 10 for the first time. Top 10 names that appear in the U.S. but don’t appear here are Eliana, Evelyn, and Isabella.

What remains true for both countries is the love for classic names. With the exception of Lucas, Liam, and Mia, all of these names have been on SSA’s list since 1900. And if you’re wondering, Lucas joined the list in 1903, Liam in 1967, and Mia in 1964, so they are longtime favorites too.
