Good news for the Montreal Canadiens and the Laval Rocket: none of the nine players placed on waivers yesterday were claimed.
That result does not come as a major surprise. None of the players appeared likely to offer another NHL team immediate help.
No Canadiens players claimed on waivers
All nine players are now expected to report to Laval for the start of Rocket training camp, as originally planned.
That gives Daniel Jacob a full group to work with, which is exactly what a coach wants heading into a new season.
Losing a player for nothing on waivers is never ideal, especially for a young organization like the Montreal Canadiens.
Across the league, former Canadiens defenseman Justin Barron was claimed off waivers by the St-Louis Blues.Barron had previously been traded to Nashville by the Canadiens on December 18, 2024, in exchange for defenseman Alexandre Carrier.Jeremie Poirier was also claimed by the New Jersey Devils, while everyone else from yesterday’s waiver wire cleared.
For Montreal, the main result remains positive: all nine Canadiens players placed on waivers stayed in the organization.
With that situation now settled, the Canadiens can turn their full attention to the start of the regular season.
Montreal opens its season tomorrow night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
