Winnipeg police are investigating three serious collisions on Monday that sent people to hospital and disrupted traffic.
Just after 4:30 p.m., a Honda Fit ran a red light at Pembina Highway and Plaza Drive and struck a Ford Fusion, then mounted the sidewalk and hit three young children who were with an adult. The children suffered minor injuries. The Honda’s driver, a woman in her 70s, and her passenger, a man in his 80s, were taken to hospital in unstable condition but have since been upgraded to stable. The driver was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act.
At Portage Avenue and Main Street, traffic was blocked from 4 to 7:30 p.m. after a man in his 70s drove over a curb and into a pole. He died in hospital. Police say the collision wasn’t criminal.
At around 5 p.m., two people were taken to hospital in critical condition, later upgraded to stable, after a two-vehicle collision in the 800 block of Sterling Lyon Boulevard. One vehicle then hit a light standard, crushing its roof.
Anyone with information or dashcam video on the Pembina Highway collision is asked to contact police at (204) 986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS.
