A 70-year-old Thornhill man has been arrested and charged in a fatal shooting in Mississauga early Monday, police say.
Peel police say they were called to a business in the area of Kennedy Road and Matheson Boulevard at about 8:30 a.m. The business is Spy Depot Security, a store that sells surveillance equipment.
When they arrived, they found a 62-year-old man inside. The victim, who was suffering from several gunshot wounds, died at the scene, they said.
The suspect was arrested in the building and investigators have recovered a gun, police said.
In a news release Tuesday, police said the suspect has been charged with first degree murder. He has been remanded into custody.
Const. Laurie McCann, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, told reporters Monday that the shooting appears to have been targeted but police have no information about a possible motive.
“I can tell you it is not a random shooting,” she said.
Someone in the building who found the victim called 911, McCann said. There were no signs of a break-in, she added.
McCann said police are looking for any evidence that could help with the investigation.
“No evidence is too small … every little bit will help the investigators in this case.”
Anyone with more information, or who has dashboard camera or surveillance footage, is asked to contact police.
