Calgary police are asking the public for help tracking down a 29-year-old man wanted in an armed robbery that began with a meeting on a dating app.

Ramone Alex Dacres is wanted on a warrant for robbery with a firearm, the Calgary Police Service announced in a release on Monday. Investigators believe he may have ties to Ontario, raising the chance he could be on the move across the country, possibly through southern Alberta or Saskatchewan.

The robbery happened Jan 27 in the northeast Calgary community of Rundle. According to police, the victim had been chatting with a man on a dating app and the two arranged to meet in person. The victim is believed to have gone to the suspect’s home in northeast Calgary, where things quickly took a frightening turn.

“During the interaction, the man produced a handgun and demanded cash,” police said in their release. The victim handed over the money and the suspect took off.

Investigators say they’ve identified Dacres as the offender but have been unable to locate him. Releasing his name and photo to the public is meant to draw tips from anywhere he might have turned up.

The case is a reminder that meeting strangers from dating apps comes with real risks. Police across the country have long urged users to meet first-time matches in busy public places, tell a friend or family member where they’re going and trust their instincts if something feels off.

Anyone who sees Dacres or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Calgary Police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477, online at calgarycrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips app.
