After receiving tips from the public, police have arrested and charged two teen boys in connection to an assault of an elderly woman at a northeast Edmonton bus stop, last month.
At roughly 9 a.m. on April 19, officers responded to an assault at a bus shelter in the area of McConachie Boulevard and 64 Street, said police in a news release.
A 66-year-old senior was approached by two teens, with one in possession of a fire extinguisher. The teen discharged it, covering the senior and the bus shelter with powder before both teens fled westbound.
Emergency crews treated the senior, who was released on scene.
Investigators were able to identify two 13-year-old boys in relation to the assault, and both were arrested and charged.
Further investigation revealed that one or both of the teens were involved in four separate incidents.
One teen has been charged with assault with a weapon, housebreaking with intent, mischief under $5,000 and theft under $5,000. The other teen is charged with theft under $5,000 and assault with a weapon.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their assistance in this matter,” said Cst. Arthur Rekshta, of the EPS northeast division in a Wednesday news release.
“The tips we received allowed us to identify suspects and also link them to other events that were still under investigation.”
