Calgary will host the annual Nagar Kirtan on Saturday, May 9, 2026, with festivities running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The parade will begin at the Dashmesh Culture Centre (135 Martindale Boulevard NE, honourably named 135 Gurdwara Sahib Boulevard NE) and conclude at Prairie Winds Park, where event activities will continue throughout the day.
The Nagar Kirtan is expected to draw eighty thousand of attendees from across Calgary and beyond. Several amenities at Prairie Winds Park will be temporarily closed and road closures will be in place along the parade route. Residents and visitors should also anticipate Calgary Transit route detours, temporary parking restrictions and increased enforcement in the surrounding communities.

What attendees and Calgarians should expect
Some amenities at Prairie Winds Park will be closed to accommodate the large gathering. Road closures and detours will be in effect across northeast Calgary, and some Calgary Transit routes may be adjusted to support shuttle operations. Parking restrictions will be actively enforced and drivers should expect delays during and for several hours after the parade as crowds disperse.
To help ensure a smooth experience, attendees are encouraged to avoid driving, as parking will be limited. The use of Calgary Transit is strongly recommended. All visitors should follow posted signage and directions from enforcement officers and event personnel.
Calgary Transit – Your Dependable Service
To help reduce traffic and accommodate the large number of attendees, we encourage people to use Calgary Transit. Calgary Transit will be operating free shuttle service from and to the event.
These shuttles will serve several northeast communities, including Coral Springs, Cornerstone, Panorama Hill, Saddle Ridge, Skyview Ranch, Temple, and the City of Chestermere.
Dedicated shuttle routes—such as 514, 521, 525, 528, 536, and 537—will provide direct service to the Dashmesh Culture Centre and McKnight-Westwinds CTrain Station in the morning. In the afternoon, these routes will serve between communities and Prairie Winds Park.

Road Closures
Major road closures and lane restrictions will be in place from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with delays expected throughout this period. Drivers can expect the following:
Martindale Boulevard NE will be fully closed between Martinbrook Road NE and Falconridge Boulevard NE.Falconridge Boulevard NE will be reduced to one northbound lane between its intersection with Taradale Drive NE / Martindale Boulevard NE, and the intersection with Castleridge Boulevard NE / Falconridge Drive NE.No southbound traffic will be permitted on Falconridge Boulevard NE, south of Taracove Estate Drive NE.64 Avenue NE will be closed between Martindale Gate NE and Falconridge Boulevard NE.Castleridge Boulevard NE will be closed between Falconridge Boulevard NE and Westwinds Crescent NE.54 Avenue NE will be closed between Castleridge Boulevard NE and Westwinds Drive NE.
Additional closures will affect 64 Avenue NE, Westwinds Drive NE, and 54 Avenue NE.
These closures follow the parade route from the Dashmesh Culture Centre through Martindale Boulevard NE, Falconridge Boulevard NE, and Castleridge Boulevard NE before ending at Prairie Winds Park. Rolling closures will occur as the parade progresses, and major congestion is expected during this period throughout the area.
