Sophie Grégoire Trudeau is sharing her wisdom on Mother’s Day. In a Sunday post featuring a sweet photo of her three kids when they were younger, she opened up about the “immense task” mothers face.
“Mothering is the act of nurturing, protecting, guiding and emotionally holding another human being — not only through care and responsibility, but through presence, sacrifice, intuition, tenderness, repair and unconditional love,” she penned in the caption to her Instagram post, which included an older snapshot of her posing with her three children — Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien — on a boat in front of Rideau Falls in Ottawa.
“This is an immense task and profound relationship. If this is not what you received from your mom, know that you still have the capacity to give it to yourself and others.”
Grégoire Trudeau also included a selfie with her mom, as well as a more recent picture where she’s embracing and posing cheek-to-cheek with her 17-year-old daughter. In the comments section of the post, people shared their love and sent their well-wishes on the special day.
“Best mama out there,” her 18-year-old son, Xav, wrote.
“Happy Mother’s Day, my dear Sophie,” one person shared. “You have great children with you, great upbringing and love. I know it’s not easy, but you are a strong woman.”
“‘Not what you received’ hit me,” one person opened up. “I appreciate seeing this as it’s rarely mentioned, hard and it’s my experience. Love my daughter so much, and we have a wonderful relationship I am ever grateful for having worked on to change the past.”
Grégoire Trudeau shares her three children with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. The two announced they were splitting up in August 2023, after 18 years of marriage. Since July 2025, Trudeau has been romantically linked to pop star Katy Perry, and the duo have been open about their love connection in recent months.
Trudeau made his own Mother’s Day post on Sunday, noticeably not mentioning Grégoire Trudeau even though they’re co-parenting and were seen celebrating the 2025 holidays together.
In his post, which included an old photo of his parents — former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau and his wife, Margaret Trudeau — happily posing with himself and his brother, Alexandre, when they were children.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there,” he penned in his post. “I hope your day is filled with love and appreciation.”
People spread the love in the comments section of his post. Perry also adding three red heart emojis.
“Adore this photo! Happy Mother’s Day, Ms. Margaret! You are so loved,” one person wrote.
“Lovely family pic!” another chimed in.
