Anyone planning to be outside on Monday should prepare for some sudden heat.
Following weeks of mostly cooler temperatures, the forecast is calling for temperatures up to 31 degrees Celsius on Victoria Day (May 18), which may feel closer to 36 degrees Celsius.
“A heat event is expected to begin with daytime highs near 31 degrees Celsius, humidex values near 36, and overnight lows near 20 degrees Celsius,” Environment Canada said in a recent bulletin.
“Temperatures will likely be cooler for areas near the shore of Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron.”
High temperatures bring the possibility of heat-related illness, including possible heat stroke. Seniors, infants, pregnant women, and those performing physical activity outdoors are particularly at risk.
If temperatures feel too warm, it’s advised to regularly drink water and stay indoors as much as possible.
