The 24-karat magic isn’t in the air for Bruno Mars and his fans tonight. The “Uptown Funk” singer won’t be performing in Toronto on Saturday night, with his show being rescheduled to next weekend.
On social media after 1:30 p.m. ET, Rogers Stadium announced the star’s May 23 performance in Toronto would be cancelled and moved to May 31. The venue stated “inclement weather” as the cause, saying “the safety of our guests, artists, crew and staff remains our top priority.”
It was the first show the American singer — who’s known for hits like “Just the Way You Are,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Grenade” — was set to perform in Toronto. The 40-year-old artist is scheduled to perform on May 24, 27, 28 and 30. His only other Canadian dates on The Romantic Tour are set for Vancouver in October.
“All previously purchased tickets will be honoured for the new date,” Rogers Stadium wrote online.
On Instagram and X, people who said they were attending the show were unhappy with the short notice, as the concert was set to begin at 5 p.m. E.T. Some fans noted they drove hours from cities like Montreal, while others shared they flew in for a short trip from provinces in Western Canada and Atlantic Canada.
“Wow!! We came all the way from Newfoundland for what??” one person commented.
“We are about one hour and a half from our hotel. We came all the way from Quebec and you are telling us it’s cancelled about five hours before the show? How is that OK?? … The people who are glad that it is cancelled are the ones that lives close and can be there next weekend. Unfortunately, it ain’t the same for a lot of people like us. We are so disappointed,” someone chimed in.
“We drove from Montreal yesterday specifically for this. It is written on the stadium’s website that it is RAIN or shine!! We bought rain boots, ponchos. This is not OK,” a fan added.
“You couldn’t have announced this sooner? It was forecasted like this all week. This cost people money,” one person shared.
More to come.
