As the artist lineup was announced for the 2026 Edmonton Folk Music Festival, its producer says the event’s strong fan base helps the festival remain financially secure.
“Funding is great, not everybody can say that,” festival producer Terry Wickham said on Thursday during a news conference at the Cloverdale Community League, located on the site where the August festival will take place.
“Our patrons are the most loyal,” Wickham said. “When I watch the ticket sales come in … the first 15 or 20 minutes tells me what I need to know.”
The folk festival has sold out of almost all ticket types in recent years. However, other music festivals have not fared so well.
In February, organizers of the Edmonton Blues Festival announced it would be permanently cancelled after 25 years because of escalating costs, weather uncertainties and declining attendance.
This year’s headliners include Nathaniel Rateliff, Thee Sacred Souls, Cat Power, Arrested Development and Of Monsters and Men.
Several artists are making repeat visits to the festival, including Jeremie Albino, Courtney Marie Andrews, Ocie Elliott, The Milk Carton Kids and more.
Mitch Gorman, a singer-songwriter from Grand Prairie, Alta., attended the 2025 festival as a spectator. This year, he’s coming back as a performer.
“It’s pretty exciting. Like last year, going to see artists that I’ve really looked up to my whole life,” Gorman said.
“The lineup is always amazing, being able to share this space with those people, it’s very surreal, and I really couldn’t ask for more.
The Edmonton Folk Music Festival runs from Aug. 6 through 9 at Gallagher Hill. Tickets go on sale on June 6.
