Alright, Edmonton, let’s do this. Our first real thunderstorm of the season (potentially). Who’s ready? I know I sure am.
At 8:32 a.m., Environment Canada issued a Yellow Severe Thunderstorm watch calling for severe thunderstorms to develop later this morning.
“These thunderstorms may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms will persist into the evening,” reads the warning.
“Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Large hail can cause significant damage and injury. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.”

The thunderstorm watch covers much of central and east Alberta, including communities like St. Paul, Bonnyville, Wainwright and Lac La Biche to the east, and stretching south to include Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail and Stettler.

The Canadian Armed Forces hosted Exercise MOUNTAIN RAM 2026, an endurance competition in the Edmonton River Valley. The canoe transition was in Dawson Park. The event involved members of 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, alongside Regular and Reserve units from across Western Canada.Participants completed a 29 km rucksack march, a 3.2 km canoe portage, an 11.2 km canoe paddle, and a 4.8 km rucksack run on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
