Moving Day at the RBC Canadian Open lived up to the billing, with tons of movement up and down the leaderboard.
Several players moved up, like Wyndham Clark and Billy Horschel, and some moved down, like 36-hole leader Ben James, who struggled Saturday to the tune of an 8-over 78, less than 24 hours removed from shooting 63. Regardless, there’s a new solo leader after 54 holes, and that’s Jackson Suber, who shot 66 to finish the day 13 under for the tournament, one shot clear of the field

Jackson Suber has just one top-five finish on his career and still seeks his first PGA Tour win. That could all change Sunday in Toronto, where Suber is the solo leader after 54 holes at the RBC Canadian Open thanks to a stellar round of 4-under 66 on Saturday, which included a birdie at the last. It was Suber’s second 66 of the week and followed a 65 in Friday’s second round. But to secure his first win, he’ll have to hold off a host of contenders, as there are 17 players within four shots of his lead, including some of the biggest names in the field like Wyndham Clark (11 under), Tommy Fleetwood (11 under), Sam Burns (10 under), Viktor Hovland (9 under), Matt Fitzpatrick (9 under), Shane Lowry (9 under) and Robert MacIntyre (9 under).

Wyndham Clark wears Jack Hughes Team USA jersey at Rink Hole
Wyndham Clark rubbed some salt in the wound for Canadians at the Rink Hole on Saturday. He made birdie while wearing a Jack Hughes Team USA hockey sweater. You might remember, Hughes was the one who scored the golden goal for the Americans against Canada in the Olympic hockey final. Clark ended up posting a bogey-free, 7-under 63 in the third round to get to 11 under for thee tournament and put himself firmly in contention entering Sunday’s final round as he seeks his second win in four weeks.
Taylor Pendrith throws a dart at the Rink Hole
One of the most underrated traditions in golf is the par-3 14th at the RBC Canadian Classic, more commonly known as the “Rink Hole” due to its hockey theming and raucous crowd. Canadian Taylor Pendrith gave the crowd at the Rink Hole a treat on Saturday.
Sudarshan Yellamaraju briefly takes solo lead but falls back to pack
Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju made birdie at No. 15 to briefly take the solo lead, but a bogey at the 16th dropped him back into a massive nine-way tie for the lead at 10 under.
It’s a packed leaderboard Saturday in Toronto
As of 1:40 p.m. ET, there was a six-way tie at the top at 10 under and another 12 players sitting at 9 under. In total, there were 32 players within three shots of the lead.
Tommy Fleetwood ties the lead with eagle at No. 1
Can’t ask for a much better start than this. Fleetwood gets to 10 under.
Two eagles get Billy Horschel in contention
Billy Horschel made eagle at the par-5 1st and then holed this approach shot for eagle at No. 8. Birdies at holes 2 and 14 have him at 9 under for the tournament, just one shot off the lead as of 1:20 p.m. ET.
Viktor Hovland, Jacob Bridgeman surge up leaderboard with 64s
Viktor Hovland and Jacob Bridgeman both fired rounds of 6-under 64 on Saturday morning to vault themselves into contention at 9 under for the tournament. And funnily enough, both made bogey on the par-5 18th. Bridgeman made a whopping nine birdies to offset three bogeys sprinkled around his scorecard, while Hovland was bogey-free until the final hole. It was a stellar move for both players on Moving Day, and depending on what the afternoon groups are able to shoot, they could have a solid chance at victory Sunday.

According to AccuWeather, the high on Saturday will be 84 and there’s virtually no chance (3 percent) of rain, so it should be an outstanding summer day in Canada.
The RBC Canadian Open is the second-oldest non-major

Toronto was the world’s sports hub for a day
Toronto certainly had a day on Friday. Canada’s largest city hosted:
1. A World Cup game between the host national team and Bosnia-Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium (normally BMO Field)
2. The New York Yankees at the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre
3. The RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto
(Also, the city’s CFL Alouettes played at Montreal (but lost) with quarterback Chad Kelly returning from injury after nearly two years and the minor-league hockey Marlies won the opening game of the Calder Cup, the AHL’s final series.)
Who leads the RBC Canadian Open?
Ben James, making his first start as a pro on the PGA Tour (and ninth overall), posted a 7-under 63 to get to 10 under and claim the solo lead through two rounds.
“I wasn’t really thinking about really results at all this week,” he said. “Just worried about getting comfortable, making new friends and having fun, and just seeing where everything kind of falls.”
So far, things are falling his way. He has more eagles (2) than he has bogeys (1) through 36 holes and now he’s in the final group on Saturday. Let’s see how he handles it.
