A popular Toronto spot for ice cream and cookies is officially back in business after being closed for more than a year.

As the city still struggles towards consistently warm temperatures this spring, it can be hard to imagine a time when one can comfortably eat ice cream outdoors, but rest assured, those days are ahead of us, and when they finally do arrive, a new-and-improved location of Disco will be ready for us.

Founded in 2023 by co-owners Gigi and Ozzy, Disco (sometimes going by Disco Company, Disco Ice Cream and Cookies or DISCO) was, as its name might suggest, an ode to disco, all wrapped up in a West Queen West ice cream shop.

Disco’s star rose immediately upon opening three years ago, aided by its lively, playful atmosphere replete with neon signs and fun music, and equally nostalgic ice cream flavours, like PB & J Sandwich and Birthday Cake.

Along with the scoops, the shop also served a seasonal rotation of impossibly chewy cookies, best enjoyed — if you ask me — in ice cream sandwich form.

After two summers of scooping up the Toronto community, though, Disco quietly closed its doors in the winter of 2024, but come spring 2025, they didn’t reopen.

An Instagram post shared to the shop’s page in April 2025 explains that, during Disco’s off-season in the winter of 2024/25, Gigi had been “diagnosed with a wrist injury that made it impossible for her to bake our cookies,” which simply wouldn’t be the same without her touch.

That, and the shop’s landlord raised its rent so significantly that Ozzy and Gigi had no choice but to seek out a new home for the business.

As of April 2026, they’ve officially found one and, on April 3, Disco 2.0 opened its doors.

Now situated on Ossington Ave., in the space that very briefly housed On The Map Vintage, Disco’s new location might just be bigger and better than the first, with its ceiling already dripping with disco balls and its exterior painted in poppy shades of pink and orange.

It’s the sort of facade that makes you feel like summer is already here, and I’m no expert, but I’d wager that’s exactly the feeling you’d want to instill in customers if you’re trying to sell ice cream.

Disco is located at 454 Ossington Ave., and is currently open from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
