Canada are leading Qatar 6-0 in the second half of their World Cup Group B match at BC Place on Friday, after Jonathan David completed a hat-trick in a game overshadowed by two Qatari red cards and a horrifying injury to Canada midfielder Ismael Kone.
The co-hosts took control through Cyle Larin and David before extending their lead, but the match’s main turning points came through Qatar’s dismissals and the injury that left Canadian players visibly shaken.
David’s third goal made it 6-0, completing his hat-trick and deepening Qatar’s collapse after the Asian side were reduced to nine men.
Qatar were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Homam Ahmed was sent off for denying a clear scoring chance.
After the break, Kone suffered a severe leg injury following a late challenge by Assim Madibo. Medical staff treated Kone on the pitch before he was stretchered off, while players from both teams reacted with visible concern.
