The Games run from July 23 to Aug. 2 and will feature many of Canada\u2019s best track and field athletes. The team includes 13 Commonwealth Games veterans and 25 Olympians, with a combined 21 Olympic medals and eight Commonwealth Games medals.<\/p>\n<p>Headlined by 2021 Olympic Champion Andre De Grasse, 5,000m and 10,000m national record holder Moh Ahmed and <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/the-scene\/audrey-leduc-breaks-canadian-100m-record-again\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">100m and 200m Canadian record holder<\/a> Audrey Leduc, this will be a must-see event for Canadian track fans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-121003 size-large lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/a9f8d589-65f4-45aa-a891-f666bd996d5d-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"MOh ahmed paris olympics\" width=\"788\" height=\"526\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 788px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 788\/526;\"\/>Canada\u2019s Moh Ahmed in the qualifying heats of the men\u2019s 5,000m at Paris 2024. The Games remain the only multi-sport event that features equal standing for sport and para-sport competition. That means regardless of whether a medal is won in sport or para-sport, it contributes to a nation\u2019s tally. This year will feature the <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/the-scene\/a-historic-track-race-to-replace-1500m-event-at-2026-commonwealth-games\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reintroduction of the mile race<\/a>, instead of the 1,500m, for the first time since 1966.<\/p>\n<p>Relay squads<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s 4x100m relay teams continue to rank among the fastest on the international circuit. Now they are making the journey to Glasgow next month in pursuit of a medal. Both relay pools include alternates; the final lineups will be determined closer to the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s team features Olympian Leduc of Gatineau, Que, alongside longtime teammates <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/the-scene\/marco-arop-headlines-canadians-racing-at-stockholm-diamond-league\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sad\u00e9 McCreath<\/a> of Ajax, Ont., and Marie-\u00c9lo\u00efse Leclair of Candiac, Que.\u00a0The three sprinters were members of the team that qualified for the <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/canada-captures-five-qualifying-spots-for-2027-world-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">2027 World Championships<\/a> in May.\u00a0Joining them are Qu\u00e9bec City\u2019s Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique Chiasson and Gabrielle Cole of Ajax.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-147749 size-large lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/PHOTO-2025-09-20-07-59-35-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"women's 4x100m relay\" width=\"788\" height=\"526\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 788px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 788\/526;\"\/>Marie-\u00c9lo\u00efse LeClair (left) and Audrey Leduc with teammates Jacqueline Madogo and Sad\u00e9 McCreath after the heats of the women\u2019s 4x100m relay at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Photo: Nick Iwanyshyn<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team is also bringing some of Canada\u2019s best sprinters: Olympians Andre De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Jerome Blake and <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/canadian-olympian-steals-the-show-in-mens-100m-national-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duan Asemota<\/a>. Joining them is <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/two-canadian-sprinters-hit-olympic-standard-in-the-same-race\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario\u2019s rising star<\/a> Eliezer Adjibi, who won silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m at the 2026 Canadian Track &amp; Field Championships in Ottawa on the weekend of June 20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving all those guys, we\u2019re contenders,\u201d De Grasse said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.ca\/blog\/2026\/06\/24\/athletics-team-named-for-2026-commonwealth-games\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re gold medal contenders. So, I\u2019m looking forward to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>National champs appearing<\/p>\n<p>After securing his second straight Canadian 5,000m title, Vancouver\u2019s Kieran Lumb will contest the men\u2019s 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games and will be among Canada\u2019s strongest medal contenders.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh off her national championship, Westminster, B.C.\u2019s Grace Fetherstonhaugh will compete at her first Commonwealth Games in the women\u2019s 3,000m steeplechase as she chases the <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/reigning-distance-champions-go-4-for-4-at-canadian-nationals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">elusive sub 9:30 mark<\/a> while pursuing a podium finish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-156430 size-large lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Malleck-Nader-Q-Tokyo25-e1779458879448-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"foster malleck\" width=\"788\" height=\"444\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 788px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 788\/444;\"\/>Foster Malleck of Canada at the 2025 World Athletics Championships<br \/>in Tokyo. Photo: Kevin Morris<\/p>\n<p>The mile is being run at the Games for the first time in decades, and Kitchener, Ont.\u2019s Foster Malleck will be among Canada\u2019s top medal contenders. He will enter the Games in strong form after claiming the national 1,500m title on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s medal hopes also sit with Christopher Morales Williams, the reigning world indoor 400m champion. The Vaughan, Ont., sprinter <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/christopher-morales-williams-rides-canadas-fifa-win-to-fourth-straight-national-gold\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dominated the 400m<\/a> at national championships on Friday and enters the Games as one of the favourites in the event.<\/p>\n<p>The vets<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed of St. Catharines, Ont., will compete in the men\u2019s 5,000m alongside Lumb. Gabriela DeBues-Stafford is a <a href=\"https:\/\/runningmagazine.ca\/sections\/runs-races\/gabriela-debues-stafford-achieves-breakthrough-in-world-championship-1500m-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">force in Canadian track<\/a> and completed the three-peat in the women\u2019s 5,000m at the national championships. The Toronto distance star will be seeking a medal in the women\u2019s 5,000m in Glasgow.
