{"id":102399,"date":"2026-06-24T23:13:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T23:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/102399\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T23:13:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T23:13:49","slug":"crash-at-downtown-edmonton-train-station-causes-road-closures-commuter-delays-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/102399\/","title":{"rendered":"Crash at downtown Edmonton train station causes road closures, commuter delays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A single-vehicle accident near an Edmonton transit station disrupted downtown traffic early Wednesday morning, triggering rush hour road closures and commuter delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The crash occurred at 100th Street and 102nd Avenue, leaving the driver with serious injuries and spreading debris across the tracks at the street-level station near the main library.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officers responded to reports of the single vehicle collision around 5 a.m., the Edmonton Police Service said in a statement to CBC News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police said a man was driving a Jeep northbound on 100th Street at high speed when \u2014 just before the intersection at 102nd Avenue \u2014 the vehicle struck a curb and spun into a pole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver was treated and transported to hospital with serious injuries that are still being assessed, according to the statement. The police statement added that no other injuries have been reported at this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police also confirmed that the LRT train running through that intersection was not struck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police are continuing to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Crash investigators with the Edmonton Police Service were at the scene of the crash Wednesday morning.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/64cb9164c58329de7f691d8f5ec4469f.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Wallis Snowdon\/CBC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After closing parts of 100th Street along the west side of Churchill Square for several hours Wednesday morning, police reopened that section of roadway around 11 a.m. However, LRT service remains disrupted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a post to social media Wednesday, transit officials said Valley Line trains are not running between the Downtown and Muttart stations due to the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Bus contingency service between Downtown and Muttart has been arranged, officials said.
