<\/p>\nA male senior is dead after a house fire in Brampton Wednesday evening, said Peel police.<\/p>\n
Emergency responders received multiple calls shortly after 11 p.m. for a house fire at a semi-detached residence near Royal Salisbury Way and Archdekin Drive, said Brampton fire Chief Andy Glynn at the scene.<\/p>\n
He said when fire crews arrived on the scene there was fire coming from the home and heavy smoke inside. They located a senior man inside on the second floor of the home and immediately evacuated him, said Glynn.<\/p>\n
Peel paramedics said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and that no one was transported to hospital.<\/p>\n
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and community and all those involved with this unfortunate tragedy,” Glynn said.<\/p>\n
He said no one else was at the home at the time of the fire and that two other residents were away for the evening.<\/p>\n

The home is a semi-detached residence that is registered as a two-unit apartment, said Glynn, adding the adjacent unit’s occupants had self-evacuated with no damage inside.<\/p>\n
While it appears the fire may have started on the second floor of the home, Glynn said that would only be confirmed through an investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshall. That team is on its way to look into the incident, he said.<\/p>\n
He said the investigation will also look at whether the fire alarms in the home were working, but noted that crews did not hear any alarms when they arrived.<\/p>\n
