Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver D\u2019Sean Mimbs shared what it means to be able to start against the Toronto Argonauts this Friday.<\/p>\n
“It means a lot, honestly. My dad and I talked about it earlier in the week,” Mimbs said to the voice of the Riders, Dave Thomas.<\/p>\n
“Then, coming into practice on Tuesday, he told me I’m starting wide. Like, wow, I didn’t expect that to happen, but I mean, it’s cool, so I’m kind of excited for Friday.”<\/p>\n
Last year was Mimbs’ first season in the CFL, and he shares what it is like in year two with another training camp.<\/p>\n
“I had a whole year on the team to understand plays,\u201d Mimbs said. \u201cNow it’s being able to explain it and getting a better understanding of how to run it. You know what the spots you have to be in.”<\/p>\n
Prior to the CFL, he was with the Regina Rams, where in his career, he caught 130 passes for 1,717 yards and 10 touchdowns.<\/p>\n
Robert Mimbs<\/a> is D’Sean’s dad, a former Grey Cup champion who played in the CFL from 1990 to 1997 as a running back.<\/p>\n When it comes to his dad’s advice, Mimbs understands the wisdom, even if he sometimes gets annoyed.<\/p>\n “It’s cool at times, but sometimes you want to do it on your own,” Mimbs said.<\/p>\n “All the advice he gives me, it’s great. I might be annoyed sometimes, but it is stuff that I take in, and I like to learn from coming here.”<\/p>\n One of Mimbs’ favourite pieces of advice from his dad is to always stay ready, and that mindset helps him, with practicing in different positions.<\/p>\n “The first two weeks, I had to back up everybody. If anyone went down, I could go. If Keesean [Johnson] went down, I’d go in for him, If Kian [Schaffer-Baker] went down, I go for him, and if Samuel [Emilus] goes, I’d go in for him,” Mimbs said.<\/p>\n “This week, I had no idea that Dhe [Duncan-Busby] l was hurt. Honestly, they just said I’m up, and the way I prepared, it was like nothing changed.”<\/p>\n The Riders’ next opponent will be the Toronto Argonauts this Friday.
