{"id":106083,"date":"2026-06-27T11:31:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T11:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/106083\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T11:31:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T11:31:07","slug":"dahir-hassan-presents-credentials-as-somalias-non-resident-ambassador-to-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/106083\/","title":{"rendered":"Dahir Hassan presents credentials as Somalia\u2019s non-resident ambassador to Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/hol.jpg\" alt=\"HOL Logo\" class=\"source-logo-inline\"\/><br \/>Saturday June 27, 2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1782555608729179150_1429407382556023_8289722146861096117_n.jpg\" alt=\"Dahir Hassan presents credentials as Somalia\u2019s non-resident ambassador to Canada\" width=\"660\" height=\"527\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ottawa, Canada (HOL) \u2014 Somali Ambassador Dahir Hassan Abdi formally presented his letters of credence to Canada\u2019s Governor General Louise Arbour at Rideau Hall on June 23, officially beginning his duties as Somalia\u2019s non-resident ambassador to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Abdi will serve in the Canada role alongside his current post as Somalia\u2019s ambassador to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The credentialing ceremony marked a formal step in Somalia\u2019s diplomatic engagement with Canada and gives Abdi authority to represent Somalia in official dealings with Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s governor general received credentials from four new heads of mission during the ceremony, including the ambassadors of Somalia, Kuwait, Argentina and Benin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada values the many ways our peoples, institutions and communities work together, looking out for each other in a spirit of respect and collaboration,\u201d Arbour said.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia\u2019s embassy said the accreditation is an important step forward in relations between Mogadishu and Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy said the new role would strengthen Somalia\u2019s ability to engage Canada directly on shared priorities, including security cooperation, trade and outreach to Canada\u2019s Somali diaspora, one of the largest Somali communities in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia said it looks forward to building on the diplomatic foundation in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Letters of credence are official documents that accredit a diplomat as an ambassador or high commissioner to another country.
