Overnight lows will remain very warm in the low 20s. The weather will be extremely muggy, with tropical dew points in the 20s.

A dome of high pressure is forecast to strengthen across the midwestern United States this week, providing a large portion of eastern North America with increasing heat and humidity. The warmest temperatures, approaching 38C (100F) in some locations, will be found across the Ohio Valley, Midwest and Middle Atlantic states.

Montreal, southwestern Quebec and eastern Ontario will be on the northeast edge of the heat dome, with warm and humid weather and occasional thunderstorms starting Monday. We call those systems that produce then thunderstorms ridge runners or ridge rollers, disturbances the move along the periphery of the nearly stationary ridge of hot high pressure.

June in Montreal can be summarized in this one photo, as thunderstorms and sunshine have battled all month. The result has been highly changeable weather along with plenty of rainy weekends.

                                    Stephen Balena

Typically these can produce strong and extremely moist thunderstorms, just what Montreal does not need. The best chance for those storms would be late Tuesday through Thursday, however isolated cells can pop up anytime in the warm and humid airmass.

It has been a wet June, with just over 150mm (6 inches) of rain at Trudeau Airport, however some locations in the city have easily surpassed 250mm (10 inches), so anymore rain will only add the already saturated ground. With the heat, many will be drawn to the waters edge. Keep in mind that with all the rain this month, many waterways are higher than normal for June and moving at a decent clip in some cases.

Weather warnings will likely be required for southern Quebec as the temperature forecast evolves over the next few days. Also of concern will be the possibility for strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday. The main threats would be very strong winds and torrential rain, with the risk of flash flooding.

A Special Weather Statement is in effect for Montreal for high heat and humidity Wednesday through next weekend.…

[8
4059,4054,8614,8609,3517,28926,34731,37520,11994,8612,4042,28927,7011,37519,22517,4049,50,4045,4047,1554,8615,58,38265,4056,2762,8610,3620,8613,3664,4058,4053,8608,8611,4048,55,4046
post-108501","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-montreal","tag-atlantic-hurricane-seasons","tag-atlantic-hurricanes","tag-atmospheric-circulation","tag-branches-of-meteorology","tag-climate","tag-climate-of-north-america","tag-climate-patterns","tag-climate-zones","tag-dome","tag-earth-phenomena","tag-flood","tag-geographical-zones","tag-heat","tag-heat-dome","tag-humidity","tag-meteorology","tag-montreal","tag-natural-disasters","tag-natural-events","tag-natural-hazards","tag-pacific-hurricanes","tag-rain","tag-ridge-meteorology","tag-seasons","tag-special-weather-statement","tag-storm","tag-storms","tag-synoptic-meteorology-and-weather","tag-thunderstorm","tag-tropical-cyclone-seasons","tag-tropical-cyclones","tag-tropical-meteorology","tag-tropics","tag-vortices","tag-weather","tag-weather-events
["GET
