{"id":111783,"date":"2026-07-01T14:30:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T14:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/111783\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T14:30:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T14:30:09","slug":"canada-to-compete-in-2027-eurovision-song-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/111783\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada to Compete in 2027 Eurovision Song Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada will compete in the 2027 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/eurovision-song-contest\/\" id=\"auto-tag_eurovision-song-contest_1\" data-tag=\"eurovision-song-contest\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eurovision Song Contest<\/a> in Bulgaria, the CBC\/Radio Canada and the European Broadcasting Union announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move follows the European Broadcasting Union, the Eurovision organizer, earlier announcing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/canada\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada<\/a>\u2019s full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/canada-eurovision-song-contest-1236630770\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/canada-eurovision-song-contest-1236630770\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">membership after a vote <\/a>held at its 96th General Assembly in Prague. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cbc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBC<\/a>\/Radio-Canada, the country\u2019s public broadcaster, had been an associate member of the EBU since 1950, and as a full member gains entry into the Eurovision competition and other EBU initiatives. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canadian artists have performed on the Eurovision stage for other member countries before, including superstar Celine Dion in 1988 winning the singing contest while competing for Switzerland in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, starting next year in Bulgaria, will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world. It will also allow fans in Canada to continue watching and voting in the Song Contest, as they have done for years \u2014 with the added thrill of seeing their own country represented on the Eurovision\u00a0stage,\u201d Marie-Philippe Bouchard, president and CEO of CBC\/Radio-Canada, said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada\u2019s participation will also come amid political controversy. The 2026 Eurovision contest ultimately won by Bulgaria was rocked by a boycott by Spain, Slovenia, Ireland, Iceland and the Netherlands to protest Israeli singer Noam Bettan being allowed to participate in the annual singing competition amid his country\u2019s Gaza conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides lost broadcaster license fees from boycotting countries, a host of sponsors also withdrew their key financial support over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/israel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Israel<\/a>\u2018s inclusion. The EBU also faced pushback from member countries over its televoting rules for the competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada\u2019s entry into the 71st Eurovision competition follows Australia competing since \u00a02015.
