Henry Crocombe<\/a>, the highly-rated fast bowler who was called into England’s squad for the recent Oval Test, is set to join Surrey ahead of the 2027 season, after agreeing terms to move on from his home club, Sussex.<\/p>\n

Crocombe, 24, has taken 106 first-class wickets in 48 matches since making his debut in 2020. In this season’s Rothesay County Championship, he has claimed 21 wickets at 28.61 in seven matches, with Sussex currently fifth in the standings.<\/p>\n

His form in recent seasons earned him a maiden call-up to the England Lions squad for their series against South Africa A in May, and he subsequently joined the senior England squad ahead of the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval, as cover for Ollie Robinson, who missed the match with a knee injury.<\/p>\n

In T20 cricket, Crocombe took 15 wickets in the Vitality Blast for Sussex in 2025, and last week joined London Spirit as a wildcard for this season’s Men’s Hundred.<\/p>\n

Cricinfo understands that Sussex had offered Crocombe a new three-year deal, but this was not enough to convince him to stay, with Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire among the other clubs who had been competing for his services.<\/p>\n

“It’s with a heavy heart that I will be leaving Sussex Cricket at the end of the season,” Crocombe said. “I grew up at the club and they supported me to play the game I love as a professional.<\/p>\n

“I’m excited to start a new challenge at Surrey and the Kia Oval. I believe a move to south London offers me a new challenge and would benefit my own ambitions.<\/p>\n

“This decision was not one I have taken lightly, but one I feel will continue to help in my development as a cricketer.”<\/p>\n

“The club has a rich history of success and are always the team to beat in all formats. I’m looking forward to joining the squad and working with the coaches to take my game to the next level to help bring more trophies to the club.”<\/p>\n

Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, said: “The opportunity to bring a player of Henry Crocombe’s potential to Surrey was something we were keen to make happen.”<\/p>\n

“We’re delighted that Henry has chosen to make the move here. It was clear after early conversations that our ambitions aligned.<\/p>\n
