Edmonton will most likely no longer be a destination for the Montreal Canadiens goaltender, which is a significant disappointment.<\/p>\n

The reason? The Oilers have apparently addressed their goaltending situation elsewhere.<\/p>\n

This Tuesday, in the middle of the July 1 free-agent frenzy, Edmonton made a move.<\/p>\n

The team acquired goaltender Devon Levi<\/a> from the Buffalo Sabres.<\/p>\n

The price was modest. A third-round pick was enough to complete the deal.<\/p>\n

Chris Johnston was the first to report the trade.<\/p>\n

“The Oilers acquire Devon Levi from Buffalo for a 3rd-round pick”<\/p>\n

Devon Levi’s arrival changes the outlook for Samuel Montembeault, who had been linked to the Oilers<\/p>\n

Marc-Olivier Beaudoin immediately connected the dots.<\/p>\n

“So we can (probably) rule out Edmonton as a potential destination for Samuel Montembeault.”<\/p>\n

In the end, the Alberta club opted for a younger, lower-cost goaltender instead.<\/p>\n

Montembeault, meanwhile, is coming off a 25-game season with a .873 save percentage. Those numbers are not helping his current trade value.<\/p>\n

The goaltender’s situation therefore remains unresolved.<\/p>\n

One potential landing spot disappearing does not mean Kent Hughes has stopped listening to trade offers-far from it.<\/p>\n

This is a situation worth monitoring.<\/p>\n
