After\u00a0Summer McIntosh<\/a>\u2018s record run in the 200 fly on Sunday evening, the 2026 Canadian Swimming Trials settle into the meet of five days of racing on Monday, including Summer swimming the 400 IM: an event where she enters the meet already holding the World Record.<\/p>\n The day\u2019s schedule also includes the 100 frees, 50 backstrokes, and timed finals of the women\u2019s 1500 free on the non-para side, plus the 50 fly and 100 free for para-swimmers.<\/p>\n Women\u2019s 400 IM \u2013 Prelims<\/p>\n \u2018A\u2019 Final:<\/p>\n Summer McIntosh<\/a> (UNCAN), 4:39.71 Fresh off breaking the oldest world record on the books last night in the 200 fly,\u00a0Summer McIntosh<\/a>\u00a0cruised to the top time of the morning in the women\u2019s 400 IM to kick off the second day of the Canadian Swimming Trials in Montreal.<\/p>\n The 19-year-old comfortably put up a time of 4:39.71, more than a second faster than she was in the prelims at the 2025 Trials (4:40.93) before breaking the world record in the final in 4:23.65.<\/p>\n McIntosh leads the 2025-26 world rankings with her time of 4:27.31 from the Longhorn Elite Invite last month.<\/p>\n Etobicoke\u2019s\u00a0Ella Jansen<\/a> qualified 2nd overall in 4:43.76, swimming alongside McIntosh in the fifth and final heat. The rising Tennessee junior owns a personal best time of 4:37.35, set in 2023, and went 4:39.30 in last year\u2019s Trials final to place 3rd. She\u2019s been as fast as 4:40.40 this season.<\/p>\n Two-time Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/a> topped the penultimate heat in a time of 4:44.58 to advance 3rd overall. Last year, she was the runner-up to McIntosh at the Canadian Trials in a personal best time of 4:35.56 after going 4:41.02 in the prelims.<\/p>\n Rising Cal senior\u00a0Kathryn Hazle<\/a>\u00a0(4:49.24) and rising Florida junior\u00a0Julie Brousseau<\/a>\u00a0(4:49.49) made it five women under 4:50 to advance 4th and 5th into the final.<\/p>\n Fifteen-year-old standout\u00a0Shima Taghavi<\/a> impressed by making the \u2018A\u2019 final in a time of 4:54.13, just over two seconds shy of her 4:52.10 PB set at the 2025 Trials where she won the junior final.<\/p>\n Men\u2019s 400 IM \u2013 Prelims<\/p>\n World Record: 4:02.50 \u2013 Leon Marchand, France (4:02.50) \u2018A\u2019 Final:<\/p>\n Tristan Jankovics<\/a> (RCAQ), 4:19.84 *Internationals in Top 10 But Ineligible for \u2018A\u2019 Final: Matthew Mortenson<\/a> (4:29.59), Sebastian Gonzalez-Barboza (4:31.06)<\/p>\n Tristan Jankovics<\/a> and\u00a0Lorne Wigginton<\/a> did what they needed to do in this morning\u2019s prelims of the men\u2019s 400 IM, coasting to win each of the two circle-seeded heats and earn the middle two lanes for tonight\u2019s final.<\/p>\n Wigginton won the first circle-seeded heat in 4:21.63, putting it on cruise control on the back half with American\u00a0Matthew Mortenson<\/a> the next-closest swimmer back nearly eight seconds in 4:29.59.<\/p>\n Wigginton has been as fast as 4:14.35 this season, done a few weeks ago at the Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis that ranks him 22nd in the world.<\/p>\n Jankovics followed with a strong showing in the sixth and final heat, out-splitting Wigginton by two seconds on breast and free to post the top time of the session in 4:19.84. His season-best sits at 4:18.67, set in December at the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n At the 2025 Canadian Trials, Jankovics (4:13.15) edged out Wigginton (4:13.40) for the victory, though Wigginton was the only one of the two to swim at the World Championships, placing 14th.<\/p>\n Qualifying 3rd into the final was\u00a0Jaques Harrison<\/a>, a 19-year-old who won the junior final at last year\u2019s Trials. Harrison put up a time of 4:23.59 this morning, just shy of the 4:22.92 PB he set en route to a 9th-place finish at the 2025 World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n Women\u2019s 100 Free \u2013 Prelims<\/p>\n World Record: 51.68 \u2013 Marrit Steenbergen, Netherlands (2026) \u2018A\u2019 Final:<\/p>\n Taylor Ruck<\/a> (HPCVN), 53.91 *Internationals in Top 10 But Ineligible for \u2018A\u2019 Final: Kayla Sanchez<\/a> (53.86)<\/p>\n Kayla Sanchez<\/a>\u00a0was the fastest swimmer in this morning\u2019s prelims of the women\u2019s 100 free, but it\u2019s\u00a0Taylor Ruck<\/a> claiming Lane 4 for tonight\u2019s \u2018A\u2019 final.<\/p>\n Sanchez, a two-time Olympic medalist with Canada in Tokyo, now represents the Philippines, meaning she\u2019ll be relegated to the consolation final in tonight\u2019s session. The 25-year-old UBC Thunderbird put up a solid time of 53.86 this morning, which marks her fastest since the Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n Sanchez and Ruck raced head-to-head in the final heat, with Ruck finishing just a hair behind her longtime training partner in 53.91, marking her third time sub-54 this season. She also went 53.80 in Edmonton in April, and then was 53.90 at the Sacramento Pro Swim in May.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old is coming off a big win in the 100 back last night, which earned her a spot on Canada\u2019s Pan Pac roster.<\/p>\n Advancing 2nd behind Ruck into the \u2018A\u2019 final was Olympians Swimming\u2019s\u00a0Leilani Fack<\/a>, 20, who broke 55 seconds for the first time in 54.95. In fact, Fack only broke 56 seconds for the first time a few weeks ago at the Indianapolis Pro Swim, where she lowered her PB from 56.02 to 55.57.<\/p>\n Thirty-year-old veteran\u00a0Sarah Fournier<\/a> (55.15) led a group of seven Canadian women in the 55-second range to qualify 3rd, with rising 18-year-old standout Leah Tigert<\/a> (55.17) next up in 4th.<\/p>\n Men\u2019s 100 Free \u2013 Prelims<\/p>\n World Record: 46.40 \u2013 Pan Zhanle, China (2024) \u2018A\u2019 Final:<\/p>\n Antoine Sauve<\/a> (CAMO), 49.17 Antoine Sauve<\/a> paced a bunched-up field in the men\u2019s 100 free this morning as the top eight qualifiers were separated by less than eight-tenths of a second.<\/p>\n Sauve, a rising sophomore at Michigan, split 23.61\/25.56 en route to a time of 49.17, winning the penultimate heat in what held up as the top time overall. The 21-year-old was the runner-up at the 2025 Canadian Trials in a personal best of 48.42.<\/p>\n Three-time Olympian\u00a0Yuri Kisil<\/a> had similar splits to Sauve in the previous heat, clocking 49.22 to advance 2nd overall. Not only was this his first sub-50 swim of the year, but it\u2019s also faster than he was in the 2025 final (49.30), where he placed 6th.<\/p>\n Eighteen-year-old stud\u00a0Laon Kim<\/a>, who\u2019s headed to Texas in the fall, had a strong swim to clock 49.52 and qualify 3rd for the final, just shy of the 49.33 personal best he set last year at the World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n Medley specialist\u00a0Finlay Knox<\/a> (49.59) and rising ASU senior\u00a0Filip Senc-Samardzic<\/a>\u00a0(49.61) also put themselves in strong position to vie for a relay berth at Pan Pacs with their morning swims, as did the 2025 Canadian Trials champion,\u00a0Ruslan Gaziev<\/a>\u00a0(49.63)<\/p>\n Gaziev has had a strong season thus far.
