\t\t\t\tZachary Bolduc<\/a> still does not have a contract with the Montreal Canadiens for next season.<\/p>\n

But this morning in L\u00e9vis, the forward sounded optimistic.<\/p>\n

During the Celebrity Golf Classic, he suggested that a deal could be imminent.<\/p>\n

There was no sense of concern in his tone.<\/p>\n

Journal de Qu\u00e9bec reporter Kevin Dub\u00e9 met with him on site.<\/p>\n

Bolduc confirmed one clear goal: to establish himself in Montreal for the long term.<\/p>\n

At 23 years old, the Quebec native did not hide the fact that the financial aspect weighs heavily in his decision.<\/p>\n

“I’d definitely like to establish myself here for the long term, but at the same time, it’s all about the money,” he said.<\/p>\n

That short comment sparked plenty of reaction.<\/p>\n

You cannot fault him for being transparent.<\/p>\n

At his age, trying to maximize his next contract is simply common sense.<\/p>\n

A young player with the opportunity to earn several million dollars is right to think about it, especially since the risk of injury is always present.<\/p>\n

On the ice, Bolduc recorded 30 points in 78 games, a modest total in his second full NHL season.<\/p>\n

However, the playoffs strengthened his case, as he put together a very solid postseason overall.<\/p>\n

The market has also improved his negotiating position, particularly following Mavrik Bourque<\/a>‘s recent contract situation in Nashville.<\/p>\n

The real question is: how far are the Canadiens willing to go?<\/p>\n

He is still playing under an entry-level contract worth $863,334.<\/p>\n

The gap between that figure and his expectations likely explains why the two sides have not yet reached an agreement.<\/p>\n
