Prosecution Service said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In December, <a data-ylk=\"slk:a jury found Carter;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;outcm:mb_qualified_link;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.news.yahoo.com\/retrial-finds-man-guilty-murder-140942457.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a jury found Carter<\/a>, 29, guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of gangster Kevin Whiteside and 15-year-old Alfred Wong, who was just passing by in the area with his family in a car on the night of Jan. 13, 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The ruling was during a retrial, after the collapse of the prosecution case in September 2024 when a jury could not come to a decision after five days of deliberation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutors said the slayings were linked to Carter using video, cellphone records and Carter&#8217;s DNA in a getaway vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At that time of the shooting, Whiteside was running along Broadway shooting at two people in a taxi. Court heard the target was a gangster associated with Carter. Whiteside was hit by gunfire and died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Wong, a student at Pinetree Secondary in Coquitlam, was in the back seat of his parents&#8217; car when a stray bullet hit him in the chest. The family was travelling home after dinner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Court heard that a red van linked to Carter was seen leaving the area after the shooting.
