At least two people were killed in a shooting attack in Toronto<\/a> at the Salsa on St. Clair music festival, police announced on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Another three people were reported to have been wounded in the attack.<\/p>\n

The Toronto<\/a> Police requested that people avoid the area and follow all police instructions.<\/p>\n

A Toronto Police spokesperson declined to provide additional details to Reuters beyond the information posted on the department’s official feed on X.<\/p>\n

Police said updates would be provided as more information became available. No details were immediately released about a suspect, motive, or arrests.<\/p>\n

According to the event’s website, Salsa in Toronto is “Canada\u2019s #1 Latino-themed cultural celebration.”<\/p>\n

Mark Carney mourns shooting attack victims<\/p>\n

Mark Carney, Canada’s Prime Minister, stated that he was “horrified” by the shooting and said the police had his full support in their efforts to apprehend those responsible, in a post on X\/Twitter.<\/p>\n

“My prayers are with the families grieving their loved ones, those who are in critical condition, and everyone who has been affected by this horrific event,” he wrote in a post on X\/Twitter.<\/p>\n

“My thanks to the police officers and other first responders whose courage and fast action prevented further tragedy,” he added.<\/p>\n

Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario<\/a>, also announced in a post on X\/Twitter that he was “devastated by the senseless violence.”<\/p>\n

“My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected,” he wrote. “Thank you to Toronto Police and our first responders for responding to this horrific incident.”<\/p>\n

Ford also added that the person responsible for the shooting<\/a> “must be caught, brought to justice and spend the rest of their life behind bars.”<\/p>\n

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow also posted to her X\/Twitter, saying she was “disgusted and angered” by the shooting.<\/p>\n

“This was a reckless, despicable act of violence at a crowded festival,” she said. “I will ensure Toronto Police have every resource they need to find those responsible, and they will keep working around the clock to get guns off our streets.”<\/p>\n

She also offered condolences and thanked police and first responders for their quick attention to the situation.<\/p>\n
