A number of children have been injured after a tree fell at an outdoor activity centre in Surrey.<\/p>\n
South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) said crews were called to the PGL Activity Centre on Marchants Hill in Tilford Road, Hindhead, at about 13:40 BST on Monday.<\/p>\n
One patient was airlifted to a London hospital with a serious leg injury, while six others were taken to Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford with less serious injuries. Eleven people were assessed and treated at the scene before being discharged.<\/p>\n
PGL, a provider of outdoor education, said the safety of children, teachers and colleagues was its priority.<\/p>\n
Multiple ambulance crews attended, alongside paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as well as police and fire services, Secamb said.<\/p>\n
PGL confirmed there had been an “incident” at the centre.<\/p>\n
It said: “A number of children were injured and are receiving medical treatment as required.<\/p>\n
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected. The safety and wellbeing of the children, their teachers and our colleagues is our absolute priority.<\/p>\n
“We are working closely with the schools involved and emergency services to support those affected and to ensure families receive timely information through their schools.”<\/p>\n
It added it was “committed to supporting everyone affected”.<\/p>\n
Farnham and Bordon MP Gregory Stafford said he was aware of a “serious accident” involving a group of children.<\/p>\n
He said there had been “a number of injuries” but no reported fatalities and emergency services remained at the scene.<\/p>\n
Stafford said Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were working closely with PGL.<\/p>\n
“My thoughts are with the children involved, their families, and all those affected,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I am grateful for the swift and professional response of our emergency services.”<\/p>\n
