A Toronto sandwich shop that made a major splash when it opened in the summer of 2025 has already closed its doors months shy of its first anniversary, but don’t worry: it’ll be back.<\/p>\n

If you keep tabs on the Toronto sandwich scene at all, the name Uncle Pete’s<\/a> will surely ring a bell.<\/p>\n

Setting up shop in Kensington Market in August 2025, Uncle Pete’s became a near-instant hit thanks to its heaping Italian sandwiches served on focaccia made fresh in-house daily.<\/p>\n

In a city that’s virtually overflowing with sandwich shops, Uncle Pete’s managed to stand out with its humble, intricately constructed menu and playful attitude. Within weeks, Pete’s became a certified institution, even joining forces with one of the city’s hottest new pizzerias for a limited, though no less popular, collaboration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can hit turbulence no matter how high you’re flying, though, and that seems to be the case for Uncle Pete’s.<\/p>\n

\"uncleIn an April 18 Instagram post<\/a>, the Uncle Pete’s team revealed that, after just 8 months in business, the sandwich shop will soon be leaving its Kensington Market digs.<\/p>\n

According to the post, the team has “hit a bit of a snag when it comes to leases, renewals and finding a new home for the business within a condensed time frame,” leaving the team with no choice but to close down while they search for a new location following the expiration of their lease.<\/p>\n

Luckily, that means that it’s not the end of Uncle Pete’s for good, but tragically, it does mean that the shop will be closing its doors for an undetermined length of time before it can make its comeback.<\/p>\n

If you want to get your focaccia fix before Uncle Pete’s goes on hiatus, the shop will still be open until its last service on Saturday, April 25, so don’t miss out on your last chance to capitalize on this chapter.<\/p>\n

“For now, Uncle Pete is gonna go for a little nap but we’ll try to update you as soon as possible,” the post concludes.<\/p>\n
