RANDEEP Sarai, Secretary of State (International Development) and MP for Surrey Centre, on behalf of Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan) on Monday announced over $8 million in Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) funding for four Surrey businesses to help them diversify exports, grow locally, and compete globally.<\/p>\n

These investments support the Government of Canada\u2019s measures to strengthen domestic food production and help businesses in sectors affected by global trade disruptions \u2013 such as forestry, manufacturing, and steel and aluminum \u2013 boost productivity, reduce costs, build more resilient supply chains, and reach new markets.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made at AI Industries, a company that produces steel components for construction projects across North America, including Surrey Civic Centre. PacifiCan\u2019s investment will help AI Industries increase production capacity and efficiency by installing advanced automated fabrication and welding equipment, enabling the company to expand into new markets, strengthen supply chains, and create good jobs.<\/p>\n

Three additional businesses are also receiving funding, including\u00a0Nanak Foods, a company that specializes in the manufacturing of paneer cheese, ghee (clarified butter), yogurt and various dairy-based appetizers and desserts. PacifiCan\u2019s investment will help automate its production and warehouse operations to increase capacity, strengthen\u00a0domestic\u00a0food manufacturing,\u00a0and\u00a0expand into new international markets.<\/p>\n

Through the deployment of advanced automation technology, we will enhance productivity, improve our global competitiveness, and generate economic benefits that extend throughout our network of Canadian suppliers, subcontractors, and construction partners,\u201d said Karim Walji, Co-Owner and General Manager, AI Industries.<\/p>\n
