Tomorrow the Green Party of Canada will announce its candidate for the federal by-election in North Vancouver\u2014Capilano, becoming the first federal party to name a candidate in the urban coastal riding.<\/p>\n

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, BC Green MLA Jeremy Valeriote, and former North Vancouver\u2014Capilano Green Party candidate Andrew Robinson will formally endorse the candidate at the July 15 event. <\/p>\n

They will be joined by local Green supporters.<\/p>\n

The riding\u2019s voter base includes part of North Vancouver and part of West Vancouver.<\/p>\n

A by-election is coming up in the riding as long-time Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson departs for an Ambassador role<\/a> to represent Canada to the European Union. <\/p>\n

Wilkinson had a strong ministerial file on energy and environment; the Greens possibly think there could be cross-over voters from Liberal to Green based on that issue.<\/p>\n

There are several other by-elections coming up across Canada in the months ahead, including two in Montreal<\/a> where the NDP feels they have a shot.<\/p>\n

There is a slim Liberal majority in the House of Commons. There is only one Green in the House of Commons at this time (that being Elizabeth May who is MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands).<\/p>\n
