Let us know what you think of the plan below.

Cowboys Festival is coming back — and so is the controversy

Calgary’s rezoning debate is far from over

Spring cleaning has officially begun

Get your story told! The funding will deliver 189 new modular classrooms and roughly 5,450 new student spaces in the communities with the greatest need.

The investment is part of a broader $600 million, three-year commitment, which itself falls under the $8.6-billion Schools Now program — a larger effort to create or modernize more than 200,000 student spaces across Alberta by 2031-32.

Calgary is among the biggest recipients. The Calgary Board of Education is set to receive 46 new modular classrooms, adding more than 1,100 learning spaces across 10 schools. The Calgary Catholic School District will receive 12 new classrooms, five replacements, and nine relocations.

The province points to rapid population growth as the driver, noting more than 80,000 new students have entered Alberta classrooms over just three years. Calgary Board of Education chair Laura Hack put the scale of the investment in perspective: “Forty-six modular classrooms add more than 1,100 learning spaces across 10 schools, nearly the equivalent of two elementary schools. This means more students can attend school closer to home.”

Modular classrooms are seen as a faster solution while permanent school construction continues — they typically become operational within eight to twelve months.

Need to know

💔 The search for 82-year-old Calgary woman Diane Cooper, who had been missing since April 7, came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday when RCMP found her near Kindersley, Saskatchewan.
