{"id":132230,"date":"2026-07-16T19:51:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/132230\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T19:51:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:51:14","slug":"smoke-from-canada-wildfires-expected-to-last-through-the-weekend-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/132230\/","title":{"rendered":"Smoke from Canada wildfires expected to last through the weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Smoke from Canada\u2019s raging wildfires blanketed Northeast Pennsylvania on Thursday and won\u2019t let up soon, though the region has likely seen the worst of it.<\/p>\n<p>The smoky conditions are expected to last through the weekend, said Danielle Knittle, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service\u2019s Binghamton, New York, forecast office. The most dense smoke was expected Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the worst of it is going to be through early tomorrow,\u201d Knittle said Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Friday may bring some relief, with the smoke shifting, she said. It may dissipate by early next week.<\/p>\n<p>The state Department of Environmental Protection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes-tribune.com\/2026\/07\/15\/dep-declares-statewide-code-red-air-quality-alert-for-thursday\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issued<\/a> a statewide Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Thursday. The U.S. Air Quality Index listed the air quality for the Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area as \u201cunhealthy.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The smoke brought\u00a0cooler temperatures, with regional highs in the mid-80s, Knittle said, a drop from the upper 90s earlier this week.
