Canada has extended Babcock Canada\u2019s Victoria-class submarine support contract by six years, ensuring the company will continue providing in-service support for the Royal Canadian Navy\u2019s submarine fleet while helping pave the way for the country\u2019s next-generation submarines.<\/p>\n

Through the Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC), Babcock has been Canada\u2019s submarine sustainment partner for more than 18 years. The new contract extension includes the potential to extend the deal up to the fleet\u2019s end of life, enabling uninterrupted, continuous service, as Canada transitions to its new fleet of submarines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe\u00a0extension builds on our core position as Canada\u2019s submarine sustainment partner\u00a0delivering world-class support\u00a0and will drive enhanced outcomes for the existing Victoria-class fleet. It will also enable Canada\u2019s submarine sustainment enterprise to achieve a smooth transition to Canada\u2019s future submarine capability.\u201d <\/p>\n

Babcock\u00a0has built a robust Canadian supply chain with over 450 suppliers. Babcock has also strengthened Canada\u2019s industrial base by working closely with Canadian universities, colleges, Indigenous communities, and small and medium-sized businesses to support skills development, training, and innovation.<\/p>\n

The contract extension also positions Babcock to support Canada\u2019s future submarine capability under the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). The company said that, if selected as the program\u2019s sustainment partner, it would leverage its experience under the VISSC to prepare its workforce and supply chain for the introduction of the new submarine fleet in the 2030s.<\/p>\n

To remind, Canada recently selected German shipbuilding major TKMS as the preferred supplier for its Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, paving the way for the potential acquisition of twelve Type 212CD submarines.<\/p>\n
