{"id":140048,"date":"2026-07-22T21:23:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T21:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/140048\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T21:23:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T21:23:24","slug":"young-shark-detected-off-coast-of-canada-as-he-heads-to-summer-feeding-grounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/140048\/","title":{"rendered":"Young shark detected off coast of Canada as he heads to summer feeding grounds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"sub-text\">Nori was tagged by OCEARCH in collaboration with the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station off Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, in October 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A young male great <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/animals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">white shark<\/a> was detected swimming off the coast of <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Canada<\/a> on Sunday as he continued his journey toward his northern <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">summer<\/a> foraging grounds.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/massive-great-white-shark-cape-cod-summer-hotspot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ATLANTIC\u2019S LARGEST MALE GREAT WHITE CONTENDER LIKELY HEADING TOWARD THIS POPULAR SUMMER GETAWAY<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Cross, a juvenile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/search?q=great%20white%20shark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">great white shark<\/a>, was tracked moving north through the Gulf of St. Lawrence. His latest ping placed him about 5.5 miles off the coast of <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Quebec<\/a> in the Honguedo Strait, between the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula and Anticosti Island.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">OCEARCH<\/a>, a global nonprofit that studies sharks around the world, Cross traveled about 114 miles in just three days, making him the northernmost shark actively pinging on the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocearch.org\/tracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Experts say this is a typical part of the species&#8217; seasonal migration, as great white sharks move north to productive feeding grounds during the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_10\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">summer<\/a> and <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_11\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">fall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As temperatures begin to cool in the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_12\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">fall<\/a>, great white <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_13\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wildlife\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">sharks<\/a> migrate south in search of warmer waters and abundant food sources for the<a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_14\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> winter<\/a>.
