Statistics Canada reports that in May, the number of Canadian-resident return trips from the United States increased\u00a09.9% year over year, while trips to Canada by\u00a0US\u00a0residents jumped by\u00a013.0%.<\/p>\n
And the number of Canadian-resident return trips from overseas rose\u00a03.3% in May compared with the same month a year earlier, while trips to Canada by overseas residents increased\u00a06.2%.<\/p>\n
Using seasonally adjusted data, the number of Canadian-resident return trips from abroad (from the United States and overseas countries) was up\u00a01.0% in May, compared with April. The number of US-resident arrivals (+6.9%) and overseas-resident arrivals (+4.3%) also increased in May.<\/p>\n
Statistics Canada reports that Canadian-resident return trips from abroad rose\u00a07.8% to\u00a03.7\u00a0million in May, marking the second straight month of year-over-year increases.<\/p>\n
In May, Canadian residents returned from\u00a02.6\u00a0million trips to the United States, representing a\u00a09.9% year-over-year increase and the second consecutive month of growth following\u00a015\u00a0consecutive months of year-over-year decreases. Nonetheless, the growth in May was boosted by a base-year effect, as the month showed a steep decline of\u00a024.6% compared with May\u00a02024.<\/p>\n
Canadian-resident return trips from the United States by automobile rose\u00a017.7% compared with the same month a year earlier to\u00a01.8\u00a0million in May\u00a02026, with\u00a065.5% of these being same-day trips. Return trips by air decreased\u00a03.2% year over year to\u00a0703,700, while return trips by cruise ship increased\u00a010.6% to\u00a037,200.<\/p>\n
In all, Canadian residents made\u00a01.2\u00a0million return trips from overseas countries in May, up\u00a03.3% year over year.<\/p>\n
Also in May, US-resident trips to Canada totalled\u00a02.2\u00a0million, rising\u00a013.0% from the same month in\u00a02025\u00a0and marking the fourth consecutive month of year-over-year increase.<\/p>\n
Arrivals by automobile (1.3\u00a0million) were up\u00a013.6% year over year in May, with\u00a052.6% of these arrivals being same-day trips, while arrivals by air increased\u00a06.0% to\u00a0510,000. The number of\u00a0US\u00a0residents who disembarked in Canada from cruise ships rose\u00a024.5% year over year to\u00a0244,900.<\/p>\n
In May,\u00a0665,300\u00a0overseas residents arrived in Canada, up\u00a06.2% from the same month one year earlier. The majority (80.2%) of these arrivals were by air.<\/p>\n
By volume, arrivals from Europe (+31,000; +12.3%) and the Americas (excluding the United States) (+10,300; +12.1%) drove the year-over-year increase in overseas-resident arrivals in May, offsetting a decrease in arrivals from Asia (-9,800;\u00a0-4.5%).<\/p>\n
