\t\t\t\tConnor McDavid<\/a> may be entering his final real opportunity to win the Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers, according to Marco D’Amico.<\/p>\n

The well-connected columnist discussed the situation on BPM Sports this week.<\/p>\n

It’s a statement that puts enormous pressure on the Oilers.<\/p>\n

Edmonton has come within reach of the Stanley Cup in each of the past two seasons, but last year ended in far more disappointing fashion with an early first-round elimination.<\/p>\n

The kind of ending that leaves lasting scars and fuels questions throughout the summer.<\/p>\n

The urgency stems primarily from Connor McDavid’s contract.<\/p>\n

At the end of next season, McDavid will have just one year remaining on his contract, and that could be the beginning of the end.<\/p>\n

D’Amico didn’t mince words on the subject.<\/p>\n

His comments are likely to generate a great deal of reaction.<\/p>\n

Connor McDavid reportedly prepared to give the Oilers one final chance<\/p>\n

“It’s as simple as this: if he doesn’t win a Stanley Cup next season, I don’t see Connor McDavid as an Edmonton Oiler in 2027-28.<\/p>\n

I believe this is the Oilers’ last chance,” said D’Amico.<\/p>\n

The Oilers’ general manager will need to act quickly if he wants to avoid losing the best hockey player in the world.<\/p>\n

Edmonton acquired Frederik Andersen<\/a> from the Carolina Hurricanes to stabilize its goaltending, but one goaltender alone won’t solve the team’s collective defensive issues.<\/p>\n

If McDavid ultimately decides to test free agency or pursue an opportunity elsewhere, it will undoubtedly send shockwaves across the NHL… especially since Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens reportedly appear to have a chance to be involved in that situation.<\/p>\n
