{"id":146138,"date":"2026-07-28T01:16:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T01:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/146138\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T01:16:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T01:16:08","slug":"shots-fired-at-us-consulate-in-toronto-for-second-time-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/146138\/","title":{"rendered":"Shots fired at US consulate in Toronto for second time this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A shooter fired at the US Consulate in Toronto on Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/10\/world-news\/shots-fired-at-us-consulate-in-toronto-in-absolutely-unacceptable-attack\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in the second attack on the building this year<\/a> \u2014 and cops are now hunting for a car that escaped the scene in a high-speed pursuit.<\/p>\n<p>An officer stationed at the US Consulate heard the blast of a gunshot and noticed a white Honda Accord with no license plates speeding away from the scene around 4:46 a.m., Toronto deputy chief Frank Barredo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8EWHqr_85vg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said at a press conference on Monday. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>A shooter fired at the US Consulate in Toronto on Monday, just months after the building was targeted in another shooting in March. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Officers located the vehicle and began a high-speed pursuit \u2014 but were forced to stop the chase due to the danger posed by the suspect\u2019s speed and a lack of aerial support. <\/p>\n<p>A single shell casing was recovered at the American diplomatic outpost, and there was some damage to its facade, Barredo said. <\/p>\n<p>Nobody was injured in the \u201creckless\u201d attack, the deputy chief added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will approach this investigation with great seriousness,\u201d Barredo told reporters. \u201cWe will bring the people responsible for this to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow called the shooting a \u201cbrazen attack,\u201d and said she was working with authorities to stop the illegal flow of guns into the city and \u201cbring those responsible to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to say to the person or persons responsible: We will get you,\u201d Chow said. <\/p>\n<p>A single shell casing was recovered at the American diplomatic outpost, and there was some damage to its facade. Sammy Kogan\/The Canadian Press via AP<\/p>\n<p>Police last month caught two suspects \u2014 Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, 18, and Zara Jabbi, 19 \u2014 wanted for the previous attack on the building.<\/p>\n<p>In the early morning of March 10, the duo allegedly fired multiple shots from a handgun at the building before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Constable Marc Pinizzotto, 43, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/11\/world-news\/toronto-cop-shot-dead-while-investigating-us-consulate-shooting\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was killed in a gun battle with Jabbi and another teen in June<\/a> while investigating the shooting at the US Consulate.<\/p>\n<p>A white Honda Accord with no license plates sped away from the scene and was pursued by officers in a high-speed chase, but no arrests have been made.  REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto, was hit with first-degree murder charges in connection with his death. Jabbi managed to escape the shootout and was later arrested. <\/p>\n<p>Investigators have also alleged that the youngsters had been hired to target several Jewish institutions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/toronto-us-consulate-shooting-july-9.7285493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CBC reported. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue with the same level of efforts, same level of conviction and dedication to deal with this,\u201d Barredo said, referring to arrests made in the March shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Torontonian, and I know how you are thinking. This should not be happening. We\u2019re going to bring the people responsible for this to justice and make sure this doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A motive in Monday\u2019s shooting is not yet clear, and no arrests have been made. <\/p>\n<p>Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow called the shooting a \u201cbrazen attack,\u201d and said she was working with authorities to stop the illegal flow of guns into the city. Sammy Kogan\/The Canadian Press via AP<\/p>\n<p>Toronto police in June said they believed several shootings could be linked to \u201cmultilayered\u201d gun-for-hire networks that have also targeted synagogues in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Two popular Jewish-owned bakeries were targeted by gunfire over the weekend.
