Evo Car Share is expanding its services into Surrey.<\/p>\n
The move will bring pick-up and drop-off services to the city for the first time, a recent release shared. <\/p>\n
Evo Car Share said two new locations opened July 20 for one-way trips, and that means Surrey residents, commuters and visitors now have more options to get around. <\/p>\n
According to Dave Wharf, senior manager of business operations at Evo Car Share, this expansion into Surrey was driven by the city\u2019s rapidly growing population. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels like a bit of a no-brainer because there is so much growth,\u201d Wharf said, adding Surrey met many of the factors Evo looks for when expanding into a new market.<\/p>\n
Evo members will now be able to start or end their trips at Surrey Central SkyTrain Stations and Guildford Town Centre. These new locations will connect Surrey to Evo\u2019s Metro Vancouver home zone, giving members added flexibility to travel to more areas within the Lower Mainland, the release said.<\/p>\n
Wharf explained to Peace Arch News that Evo plans to monitor how the service is used before deciding whether to expand further within Surrey. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to be able to understand where people are going with the vehicles, how they\u2019re using them, and see if there\u2019s ways that we can help them out and offer more places to park, and in trips outside of Surrey, we\u2019re always on the lookout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Evo, which was created by BCAA, shared in the release that members can also continue to use the Evo Return service at King George SkyTrain Station by picking up and returning vehicles to designated parking stalls. Unlike Evo\u2019s one-way car share service, Evo Return requires vehicles to be returned to the same location; these can be booked up to 30 days in advance. <\/p>\n
Wharf said the two services are designed to meet different travel needs. While Evo Return allows users to reserve a vehicle up to a month in advance for round trips, the one-way service allows members to locate and book nearby vehicles through the Evo app and leave it anywhere within the Metro Vancouver home zones at the end of their trip. <\/p>\n
He added that the service offers an alternative to traditional rental cars by allowing members to book a vehicle on short notice, while also making it easier to combine trips with transit or ride-sharing services when needed. <\/p>\n
The new Surrey locations at Surrey Central and Guildford Town Centre are said to add another way to get around, with the flexibility of one-way travel. <\/p>\n
\u201cThese new locations make it easier for people to connect with transit, access destinations across Metro Vancouver and enjoy all the benefits of having a car when they need one,\u201d said Amitis Khorsandi, vice-president of Evo Car Share in the release.<\/p>\n
The expansion is said to be part of BCAA\u2019s broader commitment to giving communities more transportation choices and helping people move around in ways that work best for them. <\/p>\n
Wharf encourages Surrey residents to try the service and provide feedback about where they would like to see Evo Car Share expand in the future. <\/p>\n
