{"id":146244,"date":"2026-07-28T03:18:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T03:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/146244\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T03:18:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T03:18:55","slug":"stingray-radio-closes-on-acquisition-of-calgarys-c97-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/canada\/146244\/","title":{"rendered":"Stingray Radio closes on acquisition of Calgary&#8217;s C97.7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stingray Radio has completed its acquisition of C97.7 (CHUP-FM) Calgary from Rawlco Radio.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition, which officially closed Sunday night, received CRTC <a href=\"https:\/\/broadcastdialogue.com\/crtc-approves-stingray-and-rawlco-station-transactions-in-calgary-saskatoon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approval<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<p>C97.7 joins Stingray\u2019s existing Calgary stations, Contemporary Hit Radio format 90.3 AMP Radio (CKMP-FM) and Classic Hits vehicle XL 103\u00a0(CFXL-FM).<\/p>\n<p>Stingray says C97.7\u2019s 1990s-based music format is a complement to XL 103\u2019s 1980s-focused playlist and AMP Radio\u2019s CHR format, \u201ccreating a strong and diverse portfolio that serves listeners across multiple generations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The company says current C97.7 programming, on-air personalities and staff will remain in place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome the C97.7 team to the Stingray family,\u201d said Steve Jones, President of Stingray Radio. \u201cRawlco created one of Calgary\u2019s strongest radio brands, and we\u2019re excited to build on\u00a0 that success while continuing to serve listeners, advertisers and the Calgary community for years to\u00a0 come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stingray \u2013 the country\u2019s largest radio broadcaster \u2013 now owns and operates 30 stations across Alberta and 97 nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The CHUP-FM sale sees Rawlco exit the Alberta market.
