With some heavy rain in the forecast, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement suggesting 50 to 100mm of rain could fall in some parts of the region through Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Multiple rounds of\u00a0 showers and thunderstorms are expected for some areas, however, rainfall amounts are expected to vary widely.<\/p>\n
The forecast has prompted Lower Trent Conservation to issue a Watershed Conditions Statement \u2013Water Safety.<\/p>\n

Additional information: A low pressure system is forecast to develop tonight and then stall over the area by Tuesday. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected for some areas, leading to rainfall amounts that exceed 50 mm and may approach 100 mm in a few locales. Note that rainfall amounts will vary widely across the area due to the convective nature of this precipitation. Rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions as confidence increases.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lower Trent Conservation\u00a0advises\u00a0municipalities and the public that a\u00a0Watershed Conditions Statement \u2013Water Safety\u00a0has been issued for the\u00a0local creeks within\u00a0the\u00a0Lower Trent Watershed region\u00a0(area stretching from\u00a0Grafton to Quinte West and from Lake Ontario to Rice Lake\u00a0and east to Centre Hastings).\u00a0It is important to note that\u00a0during this time\u00a0high\u00a0water levels,\u00a0unsafe banks or other factors\u00a0could be dangerous for recreational users\u00a0and waterfront\u00a0landowners.\u00a0Although flooding is\u00a0not\u00a0expected, localized inundation of low-lying and poorly drained areas may be possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Water levels\u00a0throughout our local creeks and streams are\u00a0approximately at\u00a0the\u00a0summertime\u00a0average. A\u00a0low-pressure system\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0associated cold front will pass through the region\u00a0starting Monday evening and lasting\u00a0into Thursday morning.\u00a0The system is expected to bring significant precipitation into the southern\u00a0portion\u00a0of the province. Current forecasts\u00a0indicate\u00a0that rainfall amounts\u00a0between\u00a035\u00a0and 55 mm are expected\u00a0through the\u00a0time period. There is\u00a0potential for\u00a0additional\u00a0rainfall in isolated areas due to\u00a0thunderstorm activity,\u00a0and\u00a0intense periods of\u00a0rain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The forecasted rainfall will result in higher-than-normal water levels and flows along the smaller creeks and streams in the region, which can\u00a0respond quickly to intense periods of rainfall, rising\u00a0quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Municipalities and the public should be aware that localized\u00a0inundation\u00a0is possible in urban areas where storm drains may not be able to handle\u00a0the\u00a0intense\u00a0rainfall\u00a0associated with summer storms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The public is urged to exercise caution around all watercourses due to strong currents. Areas around dams, culverts and bridges should be\u00a0avoided at all times.\u00a0Parents and caregivers are advised to\u00a0keep children away from all waterways.\u00a0<\/p>\n
